Recording Artists Black/Note throughout the early 1990's. Black/Note released four full-length recordings - Nothin' but the Swing, LA Underground, Jungle Music, and 43rd and Degnan. Shelby was also leader of The Marcus Shelby Trio, whose original recorded works include The Sophisticate, Intimate Strangers, and Un Faux Pas! In order to realize a more fuller and textured sound, Shelby began to assemble and refine The Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra in late 1998.
